A New Season of Lectio Divina with Cardinal Collins Is Underway

Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will begin his ninth season of Lectio Divina at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica on Sunday, September 13 at 7 p.m.

This season, Cardinal Collins will reflect on the psalms and canticles. The psalms and canticles are the songs of the Bible. For 3,000 years, they have given life to the People of God in times of sorrow and joy. On the Cross, Jesus prayed a psalm. Since the earliest days of the Church, the psalms have been at the centre of private prayer and liturgical prayer – in the Mass and in the Liturgy of the Hours prayed throughout the day by priests, deacons, religious and laity.

Lectio Divina is a 2,000 year old spiritual tradition where Christians prayerfully and attentively read Scripture in the hopes of getting closer to God. It is different than Bible study, where one interprets and analyzes Scripture. Rather Lectio Divina is about letting the Word of God into our hearts as much as into our heads.
